웨어러블 사용을 통한 행동개선 패턴 도출을 위한 탐색적 연구 (An Exploratory Study on Behavior Modification Patterns Through Using Wearables)

Recent healthcare wearables make it easier for individuals to get a picture of their overall health so they can plan to change their lifestyles. However, recent wearables such as Fitbit, Misfit, etc. largely use a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach that does not consider various contexts of many people. Thus, this research aims to 1) investigate how people modificate their lifestyle behavior through wearables 2) provide design implications to develop customized wearable technologies. We conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews five times with 10 participants for 12 days. Analyzing interview data, we find five stages of behavior change that can be influenced by one’s motivation and interaction with devices. Mapping participants on the metric(time and five stage), we identify five patterns of behavior change through using wearables: maintaining type, practicing type, managing type, awakening type and giving up type. This study contributes to understanding the behavior change process with using wearables so that can provide guidelines to design customized wearable technology.
